I've been charged with writing 1,500 words by tomorrow night. But I have to admit, it's hard to take anything seriously that begins "My poetry began in a proto-modernist way." Okay, I know I use dopey academic words on a regular basis, but I can't see "proto" without thinking of a proto-human, and that makes me think about evolution and human evolution at that, and brow ridges and skull capacity and all those things half remembered from Anthro 101.

Oh, right. Those words.
